Gaston is a family friendly, all around type of mule. He is super friendly and easy to catch. He is always looking for attention. He has great ground manners. He is gentle with his feet and easy to trim. His feet are sound and hard. We have not had to shoe him. He is good to clip as well… roaching his mane hasn’t been an issue. He bridles over the ears, and he loves having his ears scratched. He loads easily into the trailer and backs out. In the 4 years that we’ve had Gaston, he has had tons of trail miles; he’s worked on the ranch; the kids have played at gymkhanas with him; and he has a nice start driving. He has also packed being ponied behind horses and also led on foot. He’s been on many multi-night camping trips and seen lots of backcountry. He’s been around guns and shooting. He’s seen all the wildlife that the Rockies have to offer and he hasn’t spooked. He is sure footed and navigates rough terrain, bogs, brush, and down timber without an issue. He’s also been to town and seen the lights, traffic, cyclists, barking dogs, etc. He has been in a parade as well. On the ranch he has drug calves to the fire, and we have doctored a few cows off him. He has gathered cows in the mountains and on the prairie. This mule is smooth in all gaits. He will ride off alone but is also happy to lead or follow in a group. All of this comes in one of the cutest and most unique mule packages we’ve seen. He has dun markings… zebra stripes down his legs and the cross over his shoulders… with a blanket/roaning over his rump. And he is a handy 13.2 hands… suitable for smaller adults and kids. But he is still much stouter than most horses of his size and at 10 years old, he has most of his life ahead of him. He has been healthy since we have had him… no lameness issues or colics.
