Blackjack was started as a ranch horse, working cattle and roping in his formative years, since then he's been used as a weekend show horse at the open ranch horse shows and heavily trail ridden. Owned and shown by a senior novice rider he has hauled and shown well in a variety of new environments and placed in the ranch riding classes. On the trail Blackjack is a reliable mount going over around and through anything, as well as swimming! Blackjack shines as a trail horse as he is confident and trustworthy. Ridden by many confident youth and adult novice riders. Blackjack has been used for novice lessons, and as a go to mount for less technical riders that need something safe on the trail. Lunging on both the long line or in the round pen, it is easy to pull up Blackjack after some time off as he is quickly lunged down for riding. With regular light riding Blackjack is easily maintained and will not require lunging. Stopping on "woah" and stopping correct with the addition of seat pressure he is easy to stop. Blackjack will extend and collect at all gaits ; walk, ext walk, trot, ext trot, lope, ext lope. He is fun to ride as he's no dead head, having a light and feely handle. Tolerating both loose riding and technical riding he is the casual horseman's dream. BlackJack will get pasture fat if kept outside with free choice grass; while stalled, is maintained easily with the addition of alfalfa. Kept in a front set of shoes he stands patiently for the farrier. Kept up to date on all veterinary services and worming Blackjack is easy for the vet to handle. This big beautiful gelding has kept his dappling and dark points making him exceptionally handsome. He is that saddle bag full of beer riding off into the sunset for an evening trail ride kind of horse. We recommend Blackjack for trail riding, ranch work, or small weekend ranch shows.
