When Kate arrived at Nexus she was in extremely poor condition, but we could tell she’d be a diamond in the rough! She’s gained weight and is looking absolutely wonderful now as you can see!
Kate is an astute and observant mare, always taking in her surroundings with a keen eye. She's a smart and polite mare who respects the space of those around her. Trust is a journey for Kate, as she is in the process of learning to trust handlers, preferring a slow and steady approach to build a bond. She will truly thrive with routine in her day-to-day life; she likes predictability.
Kate is currently practicing yielding her hind quarters and is steadily improving her comfort with having her feet handled.
Kate can be hard to catch in large turnouts but understands that she should face up to you when in a round pen or run. When you figure her out, she becomes easier to catch and it’s something worked on every day!
Standing tied is a skill that Kate is mastering, showcasing her dedication to learning and adapting to new experiences. Her past experiences might not have provided her with the quality foundation she deserves, but she's resilient and open to rebuilding her knowledge base.

Kate has been saddled once since being here and it is clear to us that she has possibly been ridden in the past. Though she may as well still be a blank slate! She needs a very patient and willing teacher, but we believe she can absolutely be an amazing horse in the right hands.
