Gelding You know the saying “Less is More?” Sure horses that can lay down, bow, Spin, do tricks are very cool, but not everyone needs a horse that can do all that. “Im On The Go” or “Rocky” as we affectionally call him, is exactly what I think of when hearing that familiar saying. Rocky is a very gentle and well trained trail horse that I can confidently say that almost anyone can ride. He has been a big staple in our lesson program this past year and has been trail ridden and shown at fun shows by numerous different Lesson students and their families, all across the spectrum of riding levels. Each time Rocky has taken care of his rider, and most importantly they all safely had fun with him. He has a very nice balanced trot and canter. Neck reins, takes his leads, responds to leg pressure, and has a great stop. He has been ridden English, Western, and bareback. Rides in the arena, out around the pastures, down the road, and extensively trail ridden at several state parks. We have asked him to do cross rails, trail obstacles, barrels and poles with the students. He was a huge hit during our barns fall annual camping trip weekend. He had several different riders those 4 days between our students, their parents, and even their siblings were allowed to ride. He stood quietly at the hitch rails and was taken care of completely by the kids. He loves trail riding, crossing water, mud, steep hills, and going through thick brush with ease. He has no problems navigating rough terrain. He led the group and also stayed in the back, with no issues. We have taken him out riding around the farm solo and not had any problems. As an instructor it does give you some peace of mind knowing you have beginners on a horse that is consistent and you can count on. To us, as equally as important as how well a horse rides is how the act and behave on the ground. One of Rocky’s biggest attributes is how gentle and safe he is when handling and working with him on the ground. He stands quiet, both in the cross ties and tied to the ring. He does not fidget when grooming or smaller students are trying to get the saddle on his back. He is good for the farrier. He leads without being pushy. He has no vices or bad habits in the stall and keeps a fairly clean stall. He goes out in the pasture with both mares and geldings and seems to fall right in the middle of our pecking order. He doesn’t require any special care, or supplements. Loads and unloads out of the trailer and has been extensively hauled to many places.
