Elvira isn’t your average been there done that mare, in fact… she’s a bit of a movie star. In the last year this even keeled mare was ridden by host, Janie Johnson, to film an episode for the cowboy channel and was one of the stars during Sheplers 2023 winter photo shoot.

This AQHA mare is built correct, has plenty of bone, and is THICK made. Elvira stands 15 hands and weighs every bit of 1250 lbs.

Elvira was started at 3 and has spent the last two years with us being seasoned on the ranch. She's been used to sort, gather, doctor- she’ll run to cattle and put you in a good spot, brand, she's been taken on overnight pack trips and she's even been started out of the box on the heel side but has the size and substance to be a head horse as well. Last week she was started on the flag and immediately had a knack for it. She’ll be continued working the flag and cattle until she sells. Elvira isn’t mare-ish, gets along with everyone in the pasture and is an easy keeper. She is a straightforward ride and is the perfect mix of go and woah as she travels out on the ranch but wants to hunt a stop in the arena, making her an excellent breakaway or heel horse prospect as well. Elvira would fit a variety of different riders and has had greener riders on her in the arena but we’re not ready to call her a beginners horse quite yet. If she spooks at something she spooks in place and would never buck, rear, crow hop, or take off with you.
