We rescued Ruby out of a kill pen in Texas 18 months ago. As expected, she arrived to us in terrible condition and was skin and bones, but her temperament has always been very kind and mannerly. We nursed her back to health and now she is ready for her forever person. We don’t know anything about her history but she is an exceptionally beautiful mare and has definitively been handled a lot in her past. She stands quietly to be blanketed in the corral without a halter, is excellent for the vet and farrier, and LOVES to be brushed. Somebody used her for something important in her past because she has scars from pin firing on her legs and slightly enlarged knees, but she has always been sound with us. Her X-rays have come back clean. An experienced friend has ridden her a few times. She seems a little unsure but is very willing to move forward. She’s a bit anxious and needs a skilled handler who also has a soft hand. I get the sense that she has been handled roughly in her past. We are rehoming her as a project or as a brood mare and is priced accordingly. She moves beautifully and could become a really great mount for someone who is on a budget but has the time to work with her.
