Heilender is a tall dark and handsome 15 year old, true 17 hand Chocolate bay thoroughbred. Heilender never raced and never trained to race. He therefore does not have the wear and tear caused by that sport. He is a very large boned thoroughbred whose appearance is more consistent with a warmblood. You do not see thoroughbreds like him in Michigan. His previous owner had to search the country to find him. Originally Thoroughbred as a jumping horse, He was jumping 3 foot stadium courses quite easily. I tried to transition him to eventing and discovered although he loves riding out on the trails, he is not fan of large natural obstacles. Asking him to do cross country caused him to get rushy at the jumps. He has a puppy dog personality. Heilender gets along with his pasture mates with no aggressive tendencies. He does not have any destructive pasture or stall behaviors. He is not an aggressive, pushy or bossy horse but very well mannered. I keep all my horses shod all the way around since we love trail riding to give them a change of pace. He does not require any special maintenance or shoeing. He is out during the day and stalled at night. He does not love the stall but does not engage in any bad behaviors in the stall. He just seems a bit anxious in the stall. He prefers 24/7 turn out with a shelter. Heilender is completely healthy and sound with no medical concerns. As is the case with most horses, there are some behaviors that are not perfect. Those are 1. He acts a little nervous in the stall on occasion. He does not do anything aggressive or destructive but he just paces a bit in the stall. He is totally fine in a stall that has open bars rather that is enclosed. In outdoor corrals with camping, he is perfect. The only other bad habit is that he got rushy toward the jumps after trying to transition him to cross country jumps. He is perfect for vet and farrier, leads with multiple horses nicely for barn staff, does not get pushy at the gate, is not herd bound and does not present with any sensitivity, ear pinning or poor attitude while grooming. He walks right on and off the trailer with no antics whatsoever. He trailers perfectly. He stands in cross ties and is a perfect gentleman. I had a jumping spill on my main horse in November and have not been riding. This was Heilender's first ride in quite a while so he is out of shape and it was his first time at the facility in the video just to provide some context. On another note, he has been a surrogate dad when weaning babies and some nibbled his tail. It normally is full and beautiful.
