Judy is a 17 year old, 15.2 hh grade paint mare. When I got her in February, she had spent the previous ten years as a pasture pet, but she has jumped back into work flawlessly. This sweet mare has an in your pocket personality — she’s always the first one to greet you when you come in the pen, loves scratches and attention, and just wants to be your best friend! Judy has returned to the workforce beautifully in the last few months. She’s never offered to buck, is the same horse even with time off or only being ridden a few days a week. I’ve ridden her in the arena and outside on trails, taught lessons off her, and ponied other horses. She has smooth, ground covering gaits, and is safe to walk trot and lope on a loose rein. I’ve also ridden her bareback in the pasture. She does fine in the arena, but seems happiest on the trails so I’d love to see her go to a trail riding home. Judy rides out alone, but is most confident riding in a group. She crosses water and bridges, and is fine with dogs. I have ridden her in a snaffle bit and loping hackamore and she responds well to both. She has a nice stop and back up. She’s not a horse for a timid rider or complete beginner as she is not a deadhead, but if you know how to ride and are confident, you’ll have a blast on her. She’d be a great mount for a teen looking for a step-up horse or easy project to finish out or for a casual trail rider that wants a fun horse to ride with friends on! Judy is easy to handle on the ground, jumps right in a trailer, and is UTD on vaccines, worming, and shoes. She does need to be sedated for shoes, but has good hard feet and for light riding would be fine barefoot.
