Summer is a 19 yo, 14.1 hands beautiful girl. She’s big hearted, sweet and intelligent. She rides gaited or trot/canter and has been very well schooled. When I met her; she was a lesson horse at a stable in Taunton. I purchased her 1 year ago and the plan was to share her with my 10 year old neighbor. Last July it became apparent that Summer is insulin-resistant. I was not told this at the time of purchase although vets and farriers all tell me that it must have been known. The lush pasture that we had last summer resulted in her having a laminitic event even though we were careful about the amount of grazing time. Since then, with proper care, attention to diet and excellent trimming; she is doing extremely well. Recent x-rays are available, she is sound and up on all vaccinations. Nonetheless, blood tests indicate that her insulin level remains high. She can’t be a horse put on pasture and unfortunately, that is what we have. So, she is confined to the paddock and she is not happy with her barn mates: 2 mini donkeys and several goats. On top of that? my neighbors have decided to move. Because I love Summer; I must find a better situation for her. I am looking for other people who may have an insulin resistant horse and who are looking for a companion horse. Summer desperately wants a companion! She also needs an area to exercise that is grass free and an owner who plans to ride her and is sensitive to the needs of insulin resistance. She is not on any special medication. She is a beautiful girl who is looking for exercise/companionship and just can’t be put out on grass. Berkshires, Western Masschusetts
