I am offering my beautiful grade mare, Peaches, to a very specific home. This is a honest horse ad- so please don’t inquire unless you have read and understand. The basics: - Approximately 9-10 years old - Has had 2 known foals - 14.3 hands - Dapple palomino; has sufficient chrome to be registered pinto if so desired. The good: - One of the most beautiful horses I’ve seen. I do not know her breeding but her movement is lovely and she has one of the best trots I’ve ridden - Light to the aids, forward and responsive. No buck, no rear, no kick or bite. Would excel in sports like dressage or barrel racing. - Ridden in a snaffle. - Loads, cross-ties, bathes - Does not crib - Great hooves, stays sound barefoot - Good citizen in the pasture, well liked by the other horses. - Very healthy - she has not given me any problems The bad & ugly: - Peaches is flighty. She is hard (almost impossible) to catch if in communal turnout and is super spooky. I’ve had her for almost 3 years and it is a “dance” to bring her in from turnout. She does not trust people. I’ve had hard to catch horses. My mother was a riding instructor with a boarding barn. I’ve been in horses for 35 years. I am not lying to you when I say she is *next level* bad. There is no bribe of food or whatnot to bring her in… you just have to get her lonely from the other horses and have that desire be more than her desire to run away from you (or open the gate and let her run herself in…) - She can be so spooky and anxious on the ground she could easily hurt someone. She got frightened and drug my husband. She has tried to run through me when frightened. She is unsuitable to be around children… which is why she is listed. She is NOT mean. She is scared. Very scared. Of a lot of things and nothing. - Peaches doesn’t like men. I know, everyone says that and it’s rarely true but her fearfulness is amplified with men. Again - never mean. Never bite or kick or anything like that… but she gets frightened and bolts/urinates herself/ etc. - She can be fearful under saddle. She has been abused in the past, per her prior owner, and I believe it. A heavy hand or heavy aids will not yield a good outcome. Peaches needs a confident rider with light aids. Peaches is capable of matching your energy… if you are calm and light she will work with you. If you are not… she is not and it will escalate to a terrible point. - Peaches has not been worked much in the 18 months during my pregnancy and postpartum period as my husband does not enjoy working with her. She is the kind of horse who does much better with frequent (4+ days a week) riding. - She’s terrible on the lunge line. She’s improved because I… still absolutely terrible. You cannot use a whip. Yes, I’ve tried all the natural horsemanship stuff out there. Peaches needs an experienced, calm handler.
