Chokecherry is a sound, correct, 12 year old, grade 1/2 draft, 1,350 pound gelding that stands 15.3 hands. The words I would use to describe this gelding are big, strong, good lookin, sturdy, and GENTLE. He is pretty handy for a big horse and is broke, with the mind to please his rider. This thick made, nice gelding has been our go to guy for all of our Wyoming Outfitting needs or year-round Ranch work. We have used Chokecherry extensively in the rough Wilderness areas outside of Yellowstone Park as a guide, client or pack horse and the rest of the year working cattle on the ranch and have even picked up on him a little in the pen. He is a ground covering, smooth traveling horse that has the size and bone to be durable, but surprisingly can ride around like a smaller horse. Chokecherry is gentle and quiet in the pens around people and cattle, is great with dogs, 4 wheelers, trucks and grizzly bears. He is the same horse every single day, rain, snow, or shine. He is our go to guy in the cold and wind as he is 100% safe and reliable for anybody to use. Not only is he handy outside, but also in the pen. He will pick up his leads, is extremely soft in the bridle, will plant a pivot foot and turn around correct and will bend in the middle moving off your leg. Chokecherry will be an absolutely wonderful addition to anyone’s program, whether it be outfitting, ranching, pleasure riding, or wherever one might find themselves. Annually, he is used in our hunting camps for a guide and client horse and has packed out countless elk. Beyond his usefulness, Chokecherry likes people and is one of the first horse’s to come in everyday, and you can catch him any time you need him. He is truly a great mountain horse, really nice ranch horse with a good work ethic and disposition. We at Best of the West are proud to offer him to you.
