Jake is a 5 year old gelding, refined body-type with excellent range of motion. Behaves very well for vet and farrier (currently barefoot). Hauls willingly and quietly. He does try to grab and play with everything that comes near, but with more activity, I’m confident his toddler behavior will diminish drastically. Totally sound and healthy. Loves attention and comes as soon as he sees someone approaching. The natural gaits Jake has shown at liberty consist of walk, flat walk, running walk, rack, trot & canter. His flying lead changes when running in pasture are as flowing and fluid as they come. He has not been worked under saddle in all of his gaits as there are no gaited horse trainers around my farm to help. We thought it best not to introduce bad habits he would need to overcome later. He’s young and we have been working on suppling exercises, ground manners, etc. The riding here is limited to indoor arena which Jake would be fine with if he were also given other outlets to keep him interested and active. I purchased him two years ago from someone who took him on group trail rides through the mountains in VA. He really enjoyed that and did very well. THIS IS IMPORTANT: I truly believe Jake is going to be someone’s Horse of a Lifetime, but they need to help him get there. He is not yet a pleasure riding horse. He needs much more activity (both from turn-out with other horses for play time, and patient instruction and training) to bring his energy level down, which will manifest itself in rewards under saddle. The perfect partner for Jake will be a confident rider who enjoys his go-forward attitude, who understands Jake is a young, green horse and will work with him to put his energy into controlling and developing the lovely gaits he is capable of. Jake is extremely bright and really does enjoy learning. He’s now ready to move on and excel.
