Meet Gus! Due to no fault of his own, he’s up for consideration. He’s an 8 year old 14.2 hand grade Appaloosa with a love for adventure. Even though he much prefers the trails, he will work in an arena but could use some more fine tuning in that area. He goes well barefoot, not tender footed but wears boots if trails are really rocky or all gravel. He’s camped, highlined, crosses water, bridges, downed trees, good with dogs, bikes and strollers, will lead or follow. Curious, confident and not spooky. Ties good and also overnight when camping, leads good, loads and hauls well, decent for the farrier. Good for baths, fly spray, blanketing, flymasks, being handled and touched all over. Good with other horses but also independent and not herd bound. He’s extremely friendly, easy to catch and will meet you at the gate - he loves attention! He has more whoa than go but walks out nice on the trail, nice jog, nice lope but could use more work with his transitions and punctuality because he’s more lazy about it in an arena, especially with a novice rider. On the trail, he is more punctual. In addition to day trail rides, weekend camp trips or going to a horse clinic, he recently completed the Weiser River Wagon Train trail ride in Idaho over Memorial Day Weekend, which covers 60 miles in 4 days. Last year he did 4 days of the John Wayne ride which is about the same mileage. He thoroughly enjoyed both trips - and all trips for that matter. Because he is still somewhat young and needing more education, no beginners, as he will need someone with knowledge and confidence to help him succeed and progress in his journey. He does need continued maintenance due to arthritis in his hocks (more so his right hock). He does well on 1 Equioxx pill daily and Adequan every 6 months (although he is overdue for this and is still doing great). The Vet said because of his age, the more movement, the better, which will lead to his hocks fusing naturally and the need for medication will be unnecessary. Current on vaccines, deworming, gets trimmed every 5 weeks and dentals were done in August 2022. Vet records available and PPE’s are welcomed. Asking $4,200. Open to reasonable offers to a committed life long home. Schedule a time to come meet him in person. Open to hauling to a local trail for serious buyers.
