He’s So Fly or “Fly” as we call him in the barn, is a 15.3h 16yo thoroughbred gelding that is looking for his new person for 2024! He has extensive dressage experience through 1st level (scoring in the 70s at local shows) with a lifetime USDF registration. He has all the buttons! Very light in the mouth and sensitive to the aids without being overly hot. Great lateral work and an incredibly balanced canter. After a successful few years in dressage land, Fly became a not so great match for his new older amateur owner after her second hip replacement and sat for a couple of years. He’s since had 90 days of professional training with me and is ready to find his next home! What Fly enjoys: -structure. He loves being ridden in an arena with boundaries. He finds a lot of security going into a dressage court or a fenced in jump arena. He understands what his job is and will try his best to do whatever his rider asks! When fit, he does like to be in a program where he doesn’t have weeks off at a time. -jumping! While he is green over fences, fly really enjoys jumping small courses and has picked up on things super quickly! -group turnout: he has lived in a 40 acre pasture with a small herd for the past several years and thrived. With me he is tolerating Individual turnout and being stalled during the day (that’s what I had available), but I think he’d enjoy more friends and pasture. -food! Fly loves to eat and is a very easy keeper! On good pasture, he’s stays fat as a tick on nothing but grass. If on limited grass, he does well on quality hay and a balancer. What fly doesn’t like: -he’s not a big fan of trail rides. He can get a bit spooky and nervous at times. With the right rider and some time long lining on the trails, he might learn that he can have fun outside of an arena 🙂 -a nervous and handsy rider. -he doesn’t love being stalled for long periods of time. Requirements and vices: -fly is a fairly dedicated cribber but is not destructive (the more turnout he has, the less he cribs) -when in heavy work, he does best in 4 shoes but has been barefoot in the past. -he would be happiest if kept on something to soothe his tummy so he doesn’t get too anxious. -does best with yearly hock injections and would love a home that lets him see the chiropractor or bodyworker a few times a year 🙂 If you’ve read this far and haven’t run away, I really do love this horse and would love to keep him in my barn but alas, he needs his own person.
