When Raven first met “Motley,” he was greatly impressed with the Texas-bred yearling colt’s curious nature and exceptional intelligence. Just like Raven’s very first horse, Jim Dandy, this beautiful sorrel shines like a bright, copper penny when he’s washed and groomed.
Early on, Raven introduced Motley to dogs, which he ignored, and to donkeys and sheep, which he quickly enjoyed herding.
As a yearling, Motley was a breathtaking sight to see, running gracefully around the pasture with an instinct for quick footwork and correct leads – even flying lead changes. By the time Motley was two and his serious training commenced, Raven knew this is a horse that is exceptionally athletic, with an eager-to-please attitude. He quickly learns anything you wish to teach him.
Raven has been riding horses since he was five; was taught the slow, natural horsemanship method of training; and has successfully used that method to train dozens of ranch horses and thoroughbred racehorses. He feels blessed to have had the opportunity to train Motley, thus giving him a head start at a productive, purposeful, joyful life.
Raven’s journey is now taking him to Kentucky to further his college education and to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a world-class racehorse trainer. He will always love this wonderful, intelligent sorrel gelding, but knows it’s now time for the right person to pick up the reins and help Motley fulfill his enormous potential and the excellent path in life that is clearly meant for him.
Motley’s sire is 2018 AQHA reserve world champion HEART STOPPIN, (offspring earnings 75K) and his dam is by ONLY IN THE MOONLITE (offspring earnings 1.2M) and out of a mare sired by A GOOD MACHINE (AQHA Hall of Fame).
