Volz’s Crown Royal (Junior)
Junior is a handsome 5 year old, red roan, Rocky Mountain gelding. 15.1 H. Registered RMHA (Sire: Volz’s Moonshine, Dam: Duke’s Duchess).
Up to date on farrier (currently barefoot), vaccinations, negative Coggins. Dental done last year.
Junior is a really sweet boy who loves attention. He's quiet when tied up (I frequently tie him to trees for 20 minute stretches so he can get some grass, as he's usually dry-lotted). I got him as a 3 year old, and spent two years slowly working with him (ground work, ponying). More under saddle work this year. He's mostly ridden in a snaffle, and we are still working at creating a balanced headset. I don't force a false collection using a shanked bit. We do lots of dressage exercises to get him moving under himself, and he's progressed quite a bit since I began consistent riding this year.
He’s been great on the trail. Quite calm. When he gets startled, he may react, but doesn’t really move away. His gait work is coming along. Very smooth under saddle. Will back up, step over/sidepass over logs, maneuver to open gates, rides in the trailer calmly.
Not quite a true beginner’s horse yet, but he’ll become that way with a bit more under saddle time.
