Dutch is looking for his next partner! This sweet Gelding was purchased for our therapeutic riding program, but would prefer a person of his own. -7 yo Draft Cross Gelding. Came out of Montana, where we were told he was used as a "guest" trail horse by the previous owner. -Nice mover, big stride, very comfortable to ride. -Great for the farrier. Had shoes on when we bought him but has excellent feet and has done well barefoot. -Loads and trailers politely, stands tied, great for grooming, saddling, and bathing. - WTC nicely under saddle. Basic understanding of lateral work. Nice engine, but not hot at all. Great on trails- leads or follows. - Sweats well, super easy keeper (on 1 # ration balancer/day). Turned out 24/7 with a herd of geldings. Towards the top of the pecking order but not a bully. Good in a stall, although he prefers turnout. -UTD on vaccinations, Coggins, deworming. Teeth floated Oct '23, hooves trimmed every 6 weeks. - 90% of the time, Dutch is beginner friendly. But he occasionally has green horse moments, so I feel like he would be best suited for an advanced beginner working with a trainer or an intermediate at this time. For example, he went through a period where he would try to pop his shoulder out and run through the contact, and trot off in the opposite direction (in the ring). Not nasty about anything, just green. We have put him through many of the desensitizing exercises we do with all of our horses, like having balls and bean bags tossed around him, loud noises etc. He does tend to bond very deeply with the main person handling him, and with that person he is much more willing to try scary things. He is quite bold on the trail. The video link has several minutes of him being ridden wtc; the last few minutes show him loading into a trailer, standing to be groomed, etc.
