Cassius is a 3 year old Dutch X standing a smidge under 16.1 at the moment and growing. He’s a well put together gelding with three nice gaits and natural athleticism. Cassius is good to have in the barn, will pasture alone or with others. He’s been out with both geldings and mares. Cassius is nice to catch and meets me at the gate every morning. He has nice basics on the lunge line including voice commands and a great whoa. We started him under saddle and are currently doing all of the basics. He is a medium sort of ride, not hot or lazy. Cassius has a great work ethic and is willing to try new things. A confident amateur working with a trainer could easily continue bringing him along. He does not need prep before his rides at this point and stands nicely at the mounting block. He has a soft, snaffle mouth and great brakes. He’s starting to really begin to understand how to use his body and has only gotten more impressive with each ride. He’s becoming a lot more expressive in his gaits as he becomes stronger and more flexible, though this naturally is something that comes easy to him! We’ve ridden him in several different areas at the farm and he really pays no mind to where that is. He’s been in the covered arena, the dressage arena and the jump field. We have lightly began introducing him to jumps and this is something I believe he is going to excel at with further training. He’s starting to figure out how to use himself nicely over the fence, is keen over it and lands in a lovely loft canter out. We loaded up Cass for his first little venture off property with minimal goals aside from having a good experience. However, he did way more than that and handled everything like a total pro! He loaded and unloaded well and while he took a second to take in the surroundings he remained quiet and polite. Stood perfectly for makeshift bucket mounting and walked off nicely into the open. Our hope was to stay in the woods and play over the little logs but when we got there the area was being reseeded and jumps removed. As he seemed to be handling it all quite well we ventured out into the field and started showing him some fences. This is by far one of the easiest ones we’ve had in to start cross country. Cassius just took everything in stride, he schooled a variety of fences, ditches, banks and had zero hesitations about the water. Overall he blew us away with his nice demeanor and willingness. I believe he’d be the perfect partner for an amateur with mid level eventing / dressage goals in search of something safe but fun!
