Purchased Klaatu, end of Feb. Bought him since he was reasonably forward, yet seemed quite sane. Perfect combination of traits. After racing, (18 races), he was used as a pony horse on the track, then did some Charro stuff. Figured if he was suitable for that, after his race career, he should be easy enough to train for dressage & jumping. Worked on flatwork/low level dressage, for 1st 3 months. Cute mover. Last couple months, added jumping sessions here & there. Trotting jumps mostly. If he lands cantering & the rider allows him to keep cantering, he can calmly continue at the canter to the next jump in a line. Going to be a really nice horse. Just green, but he has a good start on his new careers. (Dressage & jumping) Turns out, I really don't have the energy to ride all my horses, (I'm old), so probably, I shouldn't have bought a new one. So, I am offering Klaatu on a feed lease. Video is NOT edited. Entire session from start to finish. I'm not big on seeing little snippets of videos on horses I'm looking at. Always wonder what mistakes were edited out. In this case, nothing. Had 1 stop. That jump was directly into sun. Plus he's green. And he went right back & jumped it. I could have edited out the boo-boo, but didn't want to. I don't want to lease him to anyone who has an issue with a green horse doing green things. I want him in the correct home, for him & the lessee. Also have a video with him cantering. If you have an interest, contact me and I'll send it to you. If you want to see his races, go to Equibase. I did. Since he's not huge, (16 hands), I wanted to be sure he has a decent length of stride, to be able to make the distances down the lines. Clearly does. I really like to buy horses who can dilly-dally toward the back, then all of a sudden, come from behind, with their huge stride, & make up the distance. He could & did. Won $115,290 on the track, in mostly long races. (Mile +). He's going to be a super horse!
