GQ is a 14 year old APHA flea bitten gray gelding. He is built thick and has solid confirmation. Be sure to read the whole ad as it will be completely transparent. GQ has a nice floaty trot and big-strided lope. I will start with the positives. He is completely finished in HUS and Western Pleasure. Lots of flex and give and is super smooth to ride. When he is good you can ride him all day and he has a motor that can do just that. He is super athletic and can adjust his gait, slow and quick speeds. He is Soft mouthed and soft sided. He has impeccable ground manners, would need a touch up to his showmanship as he was pretty rusty last time I tried him. Stands great for the farrier, will stand tied all day with zero problems. He has good solid feet that doesn’t require shoes. Lunges on the lunge line or easy to work with voice commands in the round pen. Can be stalled or 24/7 turnout. You can bathe him, fly spray, blanket, clip etc. He has respect for single strand electric fence. No pacing, cribbing or issues in being stalled in a dry lot or pasture. Now the rough parts. He absolutely is the hardest horse to catch in the pasture. If he is alone he can usually be coaxed with grain but if he is in a group it will take time to get him. This gets better with a good relationship but can still be difficult (especially if he senses you are in a hurry). He is not mean or hard to catch in smaller dry lots but large pastures, he enjoys his cat and mouse game. Does not kick or try to harm you he just avoids being caught. He is very looky which can translate to spooky if he thinks he can take advantage of you. He also needs to be consistently rode to be good. He will need several rides to get him going again as he has sat for almost 4 years. He is easy to saddle but gets snorty and starts to crow hop when he feels your leg slide over his rump. He is not straight “Bronc” but can buck pretty hard. Unfortunately, it changes with what can trigger him. He could ride like a dream for 2 weeks and then one day flip and spend the whole day trying different methods to get you off his back. He will require an advanced rider who can handle having some bad days. With all of this it means he has been unshown due to his inconsistency and I feel he would be better suited for a different job. He was hauled to a few open shows. Some times were good and other times he would spook at his shadow. GQ has been sound his whole life. I have owned him since he was a yearling and he was meant to be my show project. Unfortunately, I needed something more consistent and younger projects have come along. He has too much life left to just retire to the pasture but I will be picky to where he goes as I don’t want him passed around the industry or landing in a kill pen. He is a solid horse but needs to be someone’s main focus. If you have read this far and have anymore questions feel free to reach out. If you can prove to be a good fit, price could be negotia
