Meet Chip! Chip is a 14 or 15 year old grade, 14.2, bay gelding. When I bought him I was told Morgan and Quarter Horse cross which may account for his high head carriage and that he parks out when standing. He is up to date on Coggins, vaccines, dental care, and hoof care. He is currently barefoot, but may need shoes on the front if riding on hard/rocky surfaces. He stands like a perfect gentleman for blood draws and vaccines. Stands tied alone or with other horses. Can occasionally be a little slow on picking up his back feet for picking out and for farrier, but does not kick out. Chip came from a questionable background extremely underweight and under muscled. I took a chance on him as he seemed to be even tempered and thought about what I was asking him to do. He did have a pre-purchase exam performed in January 2024 with x-rays of his front feet that I can share. We have done a lot of ground work to build trust and work on desensitization. He is hard to catch! He panics if approached directly or if he feels like he is cornered. It has taken me up to 45 minutes to catch him before, but now it takes me less than 5 minutes as we have a routine and he is comfortable with me. I am selling Chip as we are not a good fit. He needs an experienced, confident rider who can help him build his confidence and has the time to be consistent with him. Due to my current life schedule and situation, that is unfortunately not me. I have only ridden him at a walk and trot, he does well at those gaits. I have lunged him at a lope with no issues. He has only bucked once really hard, but I suspect there was a bug bite at that time as he has never shown any other bucking behavior. He does not rear. Located in Detroit Lakes, MN $3,000 PPE welcome at buyer’s expense.
