Gwen is a beautiful and TALL purebred Friesian mare standing at 17hh tall. She loads in the trailer, stands nicely for the vet, can be annoying (leaning, and pulling feet away) for the farrier, but hasn’t ever done anything dangerous. She WTC under saddle but is still what I would consider green, but she’s kind enough that kids can ride her. She’ll go out on the trails alone and isn’t buddy/herd sour at all. She has a great personality but in new situations can be a little pushy on the ground. I was told she drives but I don’t, so I can’t verify that. She’s a very sweet mare who loves kids and will tolerate ATV’s, tractors, chainsaws etc. I call this husband proof because I’m sure my husband tries to get me killed by starting every piece of machinery when I’m on a new or green horse! Gwen will make an amazing dressage horse with more training, and as she learns to accept longer periods of contact with the bit. I could even see her as a therapy horse with the right exposure to equipment. The pros: She’s absolutely stunning in person and has a very sweet and kind soul. Though green, she is FULL of try and always wants to understand what you want from her. She’s also very patient with less experienced riders. She has great feet and is currently barefoot. Beginner safe; I’d put my non rider husband on her any day, and my 8yr old has ridden her but I probably wouldn’t let a tiny size new rider go on her based purely on her size. Her personality would absolutely suit that! The Cons: This mare cannot be bred. She has uterine fibroids that require no medical attention or treatment but prevent her from getting in foal. She can be pushy on the ground and can be looky in the saddle. She’s never offered to buck/bite/bolt/rear, but she does look at new things. Her canter is a little wild but with time and more muscle it will come into better balance and I think it will be truly spectacular! She can be difficult to bridle -I think she had a bad experience with someone very forcefully using the bit, but she is really coming around and is starting to lower her head into the bridle now. I will have video of her riding by the end of this week hopefully but I have a little video of her free in the arena.
