Duke is a solid trail horse looking to find his main rider and forever home. He stands tied, good for farrier, clips, baths, rides out alone, been around cattlle and crossed water. He knows his leads, side pass, pivot maneuvers. He has been used in open shows, trail riding/camping in Maplewood State Park, Medora & Black Hills,SD. He was shown 2017 at Dakota 50/50 futurity. He has been rode in various horsemanship clinics (Kevin Vesey, Josh Lyons & Elsabe Hausauer). UTD in current vaccines He is not for a beginner rider. He needs someone who is confident in the saddle and knows what he/she is doing. Feel free to look at my fb page for more short videos and pictures of Duke. When trail riding in Medora I’ve learned he like to be in front of the line, he gets antsy when he is the last one in line on the trail. He doesn’t require any maintenance but I would highly recommend putting shoes on his front during the summer months if riding on gravel roads or rocky trails. He is sensitive/ouchy on rocky footing. Cons: He is top of pecking order, push other horses around when food is involved. (Spacing grain buckets & hay flakes help this behavior) During summer months, he packs on the weight. I think routine riding will help or hay year round. He is uneasy in new environments, I think more traveling and exposing him to new places would help this. His lope can be chargy/fast but has slow lope too when relaxed. I’d like to see him relax in his lope a little more.
