16.3 hand 11 year old ½ Irish Draught ¼ Hanoverian ¼ Thoroughbred bay gelding Sam is ready to be your next partner! He loves hacking out and will happily go out alone or in company. He will easily tote around your husband and guests on the trails with ears perked. He has a lovely large walk that covers ground. He is used to large hills, stream crossings, machinery, and whatever else is thrown his way; he takes everything in stride. He spent this past off season hunter pacing, going back to the flat work basics, and schooling hunt fences. In the ring, Sam is a kick ride with a soft mouth. Although he is happy to flat in the ring, Sam much prefers jumping solid hunt fences and would not thrive in a home where showing is required. Sam is an easy keeper, wears 4 shoes and is low maintenance; besides body work, he has never needed injections. He is very easy to load & unload and trailers great alone or with company. Sam was bred and owned by one owner previously. He started off his career hunting with Belle Meade. His owner relocated to upstate New York where Sam was taught low level dressage, hunter paced, and casually schooled beginner novice fences. It is clear he has been well taken care of and loved prior to coming to us. He is kind, sweet, and gets along with all types of horses. As of right now, Sam would be best suited for a confident, forward thinking rider as Sam looks to his rider for help occasionally. He is easily schooling 3 ft at home and is ready to move up in height out hunting. He would be happy to do whatever job you choose! He trailers consistently a few times a week to the ring, other farms, hunting, etc. He is currently hunting fit, hound exercised all of August, and started this opening cubbing season hunting 1st flight with Greenspring. He will continue hunting and hunter pacing this fall and is available to try in Butler, Maryland. At this moment off farm trials are not accepted. More information regarding his hunting experience can be given as well.
