Ebony is friendly, bold, and likes people. Her training has been in the manner of Legerete and French Classical Dressage. She is supple, walks, trots and canters, leg yields, knows shoulder-in, haunches-in, and starting half-pass, all at walk and trot. She has been worked extensively in-hand, will collect, lunges nicely, and understands voice commands. Her whoa is excellent (verbal and hand/seat aids). She has a little more whoa than go and when she goes, she does so boldly as she is a big, flashy mover. Her gaits are incredibly comfortable, and she moves very “uphill”. She is excellent for the farrier and has gone barefoot her whole life. Her feet are in beautiful balance and strong. Ebony loads and trailers easily, stands well for the vet and bathing if the water is warm. She is not spooky, but she does need a confident, strong rider as she knows her size. She is sensitive to the aids, has been ridden with spurs and is used to a rider carrying a whip if it is used lightly. She does test her rider and can be a bit stubborn about moving forward, especially in walking, but once her rider establishes authority, she is very obedient and quick off the aids. Ebony would best be suited to someone who has intermediate-plus riding skills and who is interested in a variety of pursuits. Ebony does well on the trails, is calm and enjoys being out, and is flashy enough to win in the show ring. She has taken a rider over jumps a few times and seems comfortable. Due to her heavier build, she would not be an ideal full-time jumping horse. Ebony does have seasonal allergies and would do best in a dryer climate. Midges irritate her skin, and she will rub incessantly. During the warm season she is maintained with various feed and feed-through medicines to keep these conditions at bay. Care is given to her belly midline which can become irritated if not attended to regularly during this time. During the winter she is fine. She is also very warm-blooded and prefers not to have heavy blankets. Selective care will be taken when it comes to Ebony’s placement as she has amazing potential. She is a curious, eager horse who loves attention and wants a job. She would make an amazing lifelong partner ready for varied adventures. Ebony thrives in a herd environment and gets along well with mares and geldings. She is near the top in the pecking order but is not a fussy or fighting mare. Her mannerisms are more like a gelding’s. She would be happy in a home where she had herd interactions, plenty of outdoor room, and a dedicated riding schedule.
