Calvin is a flashy, 16.3 hand 2004 chestnut thoroughbred who has been ridden by both an intermediate adult and teen. Since retiring from racing at 6 years old, Calvin has been used for on-farm dressage lessons and has traveled to local parks to trail ride, where he enjoyed poping over any obstacles we could find. Most recently he has been enjoying the occasional hack around the farm and down our country road – alone or with a friend. He is the perfect horse for a teen/adult intermediate rider with a trainer that is looking to move up from a pony or smaller horse, who wants to do dressage, hacking around the farm, equitation lessons, and/or light jumping. He helped me transitioned from western QH's to learning dressage together. He then helped my daughter graduate from a pony at 12 years old and they began taking dressage lessons and trail riding as well. If you are looking for a big mover, with a great work ethic, and a new challenge - you will adore him. He loves and requires a rider who is confident, kind but firm, with soft hands. Trainers have often said he would have made a stunning hunter jumper, had I not pursued dressage. Calvin is sweet and loves people to love on him. He ties on a single tie, stands well for the farrier/vet, and loads well when done on a regular basis. He is middle in the herd order, does not crib, has been bare foot for the last 15 years with no issue, is currently out 24/7 in a mixed herd, but enjoys stall time as well. He has amazing gaits and is a joy to ride, but is not for a beginner or novice. He is a thoroughbred and has the sensitivity they are notorious for. Which for my daughter and I is what makes him incredibly fun to ride and why he has taught us so much. We love him and do not want to sell him, we simply would like to find someone who is looking for a lease-only type of committment to love him and give him the attention he craves. He has many more years left in him. He is sound, healthy, and low maintenance.
