“Hammy” is a 7 year-old gelding that has seen it all. He’s handy as heck, been used on the ranch with a cowhorse handle. Rides around straight in a bridle, hackamore, or take him back to a snaffle. Great to load, haul, shoe, bathe, hobble, and tie. He wasn’t started until his four-year old year but he’s all caught up. Great ground covering walk, trot, smooth as butter lope, with tons of speed behind that. Beautiful lead departures, circles well, counter-arcs, turns around, and proficient at flying lead changes. Tracks the sled, tracks calves in the branding pen and holds them tight. This horse is a little watchy, you can tell from the time you catch him if he’s going to snort a little. If you’re willing to get along when he’s feeling fresh, you’ll see his paying attention can be a plus. He knows where he puts his feet at all times, sees the wire and badger holes before you do. He’s the same horse every day once you get on, never offers to buck or even think about it. He’s automatic at opening and closing gates, you can sort and load cattle with a flag, and probably the best thing about him, no matter how many days in a row you work him, he’ll come running in from the pasture to great ya. He tries on cattle, and can pull some cool moves when sorting. He’s built to go hard and fast so cutting isn’t quite his forte but he gets the job done. He’ll dumb down for beginners and children, and steps up when you ask him too. He’s a good partner through and through.
