Meet Frito, one of the most unique and talented little horses I have had in quite some time. Frito is broke to ride and drive in almost every way you could imagine.
Previously he lived with my brother’s Amish family and for the last year or so my nephews that are young teenagers have been riding and driving him in all sorts of different situations and scenarios; around the farm, up and down the road, to school, and even overnight trail rides. You name it and he’s been exposed to it.
Since I’ve been working with him we’ve been working on dressage principles and one of his best attributes is his work ethic. Frito is extremely smart when it comes to leg aids and learning anything new. When you teach him something once, he remembers it.
He will drive in a pair with any horse or single and go right down the road. You can also put him in an arena and do driven dressage work and ask anything of him and he’s willing to do it.
Frito has an absolutely fantastic canter and a natural slow correct hind leg that gives him the ability to sit the way you would need if going up the levels in dressage along with his super smooth trot.
He is also almost beginner safe if you want something to be a super, super easy going trail horse. He is very much a point and go wherever you want type of horse. Frito is a sweetheart to work with on the ground with great manners. His mellow demeanor makes him a joy to be around. He is healthy and requires no special maintenance.
We have popped him over fences and he was an absolute natural at it he could be a fantastic eventer with his work ethic and his can-do attitude he could be very success with continued training in it.
There’s literally not a thing I can say negative about him except the fact that he’s still young and of course green when it comes to doing the dressage arena work. But he will absolutely excel in any type of program and in any type of program and quickly become a barn favorite.
