Meet Chief.
He is a 4 year old, grade, Tennessee Walker Gelding that is 14.2 hands. He is the perfect size for all those short ladies out there!
Located in Kennewick, WA.
He is broke to ride and has about a year of experience. He is a quick learner and has never bucked or reared with me but I think he would be best for intermediate or higher due to him being young and not very confident yet.
Chief has good ground manners. He does not crowd you and stands great for the farrier (I have him barefoot but he has had shoes in the past, seems to have strong feet as I ride on gravel roads and he doesn’t mind at all). He is usually easy to catch and usually stands still to be mounted/unmounted from both sides. He tacks up easily and doesn’t mind fly spray at all and was easy to deworm.
Chief has a bit of a goofy boy personality. He pulls hoses out of water troughs (not exactly a good thing lol), carries his feed bucket around, and likes to have his chest sprayed with water (I imagine he would be fine for a bath, just never have). He loves being groomed and allows my little kids to walk all around him.
I have been training him from being pretty green. He now knows how to neck reign, back up, and yield to leg pressure. I haven’t gotten him to side pass yet. He had been used solely as a trail horse back East and just riding in the dryland wheat country here. No exposure to much arena work or any shows, etc.
He has a very smooth saddle rack and can cover ground. He also can meander at a dog walk and go on rides with slower quarter horses and not be begging to lead which is super hard to find in gaited horses!!! He is a bit rough in his transition from his saddle rack to his lope but otherwise is very smooth.
He is looking for a new home as he needs more exposure to everything to make him a well rounded horse and that is not something I am able to provide him. He prefers to be ridden with other horses. I primarily ride solo and while he allows me to, he just isn’t as confident as I would like in a horse. I also have young kiddos that I need a horse for.
