In February of 2024 Dutch had an episode of laminitis after eating too much grass. He had never suffered from that previously. He was treated with banamine for a few days, we changed his diet to teff hay and small amounts of alfalfa and kept up on regular trims. He was not diagnosed with insulin resistance, but I have fed him as such as a precautionary measure. There have been no further episodes and he has been sound ever since. I recently had someone considering purchasing Dutch. She had a thorough vet check done on him which included X-rays. He has passed all the soundness tests, flexion tests, general wellness tests and hoof tests. The X-ray showed he had a 5 to 7° rotation on his left hoof. No rotation on the right. With that diagnosis, the potential buyer decided to pass as she was going to use him for 25+ mile trail rides. I have always used Dutch for day rides and obstacle challenges because that is my preference and what I like to do. He has been perfectly sound for those activities. However, due to his recent x-ray diagnosis I cannot ask for his full value price. He is a very calm and kind horse. I will be moving soon and will be unable to care for horses. He will be sold to an approved home only.
