Pocahontas is a 13 year old grade Appaloosa mare, she is 15.2 hands and is built very stocky and I have owned her for 5 years. She has had one foal but it was unplanned. Unfortunately I do not have the time and the miles to put onto her at this given point right now. She doesn’t deserve to be sitting in a pen and not be used with many years to go. She’s a horse that needs to be ridden and the more miles the better, the longer she sits the more she gets herd bound. Currently right now she is very herd bound and will need an experienced rider to guide her and work it out of it. She likes to test your patience especially if you are new to riding her, and you just need to show her you won’t allow her to push you around. Once she realizes she can’t get her way she’s great. She’s very sweet and wants to be in your pocket at all times, she’s very smart and is willing to try and please if somebody gives her the time to work with her. She does great tacking up, she doesn’t do mare ears and doesn’t ever fuss, the only time she has is when something is wrong. I have only used her as a trail horses in desert area typically by myself or with a group and an occasional barrels around my field but nothing professional. She would do great for somebody that rides consistently and can handle her occasional attitudes, I always thought she would be great to move cows with because she’s has a cow sense when around them. She does amazing on the trail and I have always enjoyed riding her when she’s in her prime shape and the attitude is gone. She doesn’t spook on the trail, she does not like to cross water but if you get off her and lead her she’ll most likely be fine but may try to jump across it. She has had kids on her but only while someone is holding her on the ground leading her. She stands great and occasional pawing will happen but stops after a couple times. She has never kicked or bit me, she’s one of the ones I don’t ever have to worry about it happening even in stressful situations. She does get nervous when getting her feet done but after the same farrier a couple times she normally relaxes but just gets impatient at times. She’s been around , goats, donkeys, chickens and dogs, she has only ever gone after a dog if they are biting at her. She’s low maintenance on feed, she doesn’t need any grain or special feed unless she’s worked constantly then I would put her on some standard grain to make sure she’s getting all the nutrients she needs. She’s up to date on shots, teeth floating and has recently had a chiropractor put her in place. She gets a normal trim from the farrier every 8-10 weeks depending on how her feet look, and has never had shoes on. Pocahontas is a very dominant mare and can be a bully towards other horses, she is the boss in the herd setting and will try everything she can to be boss if she isn’t already in the herd. She does not do well by herself so a home with at le
