Cajun is an 11 year old OTTB gelding. Last raced in July 2020. He is sound and has no maintenance. He is very sweet but needs a job. He can get pushy if he is not worked with or ridden consistently. I have used him for trail riding since I have had him, he will try new things and go through just about anything if someone is riding with him and goes first. He is not very confident on his own when trying/seeing new things. I have worked with him at home walking through pool noodles, tarps, flags, and streamers. He is hesitant and can be spooky but with encouragement he will go through them until he knows that they are safe then he really doesn't care. He gives everything a good effort and would be a great horse if someone was able to give him the hours and miles that he needs. He was absolutely wonderful the first year that I had him but then I had 2 babies back to back and he has been just been sitting for the most part. I had a friend take him for 3 months and put some time on him for me last spring with the intention of being able to pick where he was left off after my last baby. I failed to uphold my end when he came back home. I have only ridden him around my property about 10 times in the last year. When he has exposure and is taken to new places he does well but when he has been sitting like he has been, his anxiety gets really high. He will need an advanced rider and someone that is knowledgeable and patient to give him a good foundation again and a chance. When I got him he was super spooky at anything, leaves, birds, deer, dogs, cars, water. When I was riding him consistently, I was able to trailer him to places to trail ride and my husband would come along and ride the quad side by side with me and he was great. During trail rides, depending on where we were at and the footing, I could ride all 3 gaits. At my house, I cannot break a trot just because our property is so uneven that I can't canter him here so he hasn't cantered under saddle since last spring. He takes quite awhile to trust you. It took me about 3 weeks to be able to touch his left ear when he first came here. I think he had been ear twitched during his racing days. He is still green and has lots to learn but I think he could do just about anything if someone is willing to invest in him. He needs someone that has a place to work him consistently and I don't have the time or place for that right now or the ability to take him to an arena to work him. My kids have sat on him and got lead around and he didn't mind that at all. He is sweet and willing and smart but just totally out of the game right now. He needs to go to someone that can make him great. Feel free to ask any questions.
