3yr old South Steens mustang looking for next level of training (new owner) He is my daughter’s horse and we have decided he needs a more knowledgeable trainer. There are so many wonderful things about him; he has amazing potential and I feel if we keep him we will be doing him a disservice. He needs someone who can take him to his full potential. We got him April 2023 as a yearling for the 2023 “100 day wild to mild Mustang challenge.” My daughter wanted to keep him, so at this point we kept him and she’s been using him/training him as her 4-H horse. He’s been to local and state fair in 2024. He’s newly started under saddle. She started working with him for the 2025 4-H fair as “1st year under saddle.” At this point though, we have come to the realization he needs someone else. My daughter’s heart hasn’t been into training him as much as he needs. He does come with some habits that with training can stop. He also has a couple injuries I can tell you all about but both injuries should not have any long term impact. I want to be honest and upfront about him. He’s smart and sly. He’s 3… so he’s curious and dumb sometimes too. I would prefer if he went to a home that has trained young horses before. I want to find him a good home. Someone who will treat him nicely. I can provide any information. I’m open to a pre-purchase exam. He’s up to date on vaccines and worming schedule. He trailers great, working on better habits with the farrier (I can explain), he can do all ground training items that fair requires and the mustang challenge. For fun, he has learned to lay down. He saddles well, ground drives and he’s done well with starting to ride, he’s not bucked with anyone on him. (It’s had been a couple of months now since he’s worked on that.) Last time he was measured he stood at 14.3 hands, but he is still growing. Gelding. Asking $2500 (or reasonable offer- cash only) I have his title from the BLM.
