Midas is a darling Icelandic 12 year old gelding whose passions are trail riding and endurance races. He’s a handsome small sorrel package with a blonde mane and tail, and has the endurance of the Energizer bunny. He has completed and won many AERC endurance rides with his former owner, including a 100 mile race in La Veta, CO where he finished 4th. In addition he has won several Best Condition awards for 50 mile rides and Limited endurance rides (25 - 35 miles). This little horse loves to move out, has exceptional stamina, and is very sure-footed. Midas has a very comfortable trot at all speeds and it is his preferred gait. I’m going to say he is not gaited, because he has difficulty maintaining “tölt” for an extended period of time. He has had training to develop his tölt, but he would rather trot at any speed you ask for. Midas is well-mannered, stands quietly for the farrier, enjoys being groomed and bathed, and has no vices getting into or out of a trailer or traveling. He gets along with all other horses whether on the trail, or in a pasture or paddock, and loves attention and treats. He has had no medical issues with me for the three years that I have owned him, nor am I aware of any with his previous owner. He has routinely been vaccinated, wormed and shod. I had planned to take him to many endurance races (since my other Icelandic is not fond of endurance rides), but then things in my life changed and I have only ridden him extensively on trails in MT and AZ (anywhere from 5 to 25 miles during a day). Midas would be the best match for an experienced rider who enjoys his desire to move out, and can allow his competitive nature to blossom.
