Nutmeg is a 6-7 year old South Steens, Oregon HMA mustang mare. I have had Nutmeg since November of 2023. She didn’t get the best start to domestic horse life, and because of her start she really struggles to trust humans. I am her second owner. Despite her struggles I have done a lot with her. She comes when I call her, she is broke to lead, pony, tie, groom, ride, loads into a trailer, stands to have her feet trimmed and to be bathed. I have never ridden a smoother more comfortable horse in my life. I have ridden her both English and western and she shows lots of potential as a show jumping, hunter or equitation over fences horse. She has also been trail rode extensively and is good around dogs. However, she is still green. She is very watchy, quirky and WILL BUCK AT RANDOM. I find it is mainly when something spooks her or she is in a place where she isn’t comfortable. My husband has ridden her and says she doesn’t buck hard, but I am small and not sticky. She has thrown me and hurt me. I do believe that she will get over it with the right person, who can stay on her and has the ability to give her the time she needs. I love this mare and want to see her succeed, I just don’t think it’ll be with me. Please feel free to message me with any questions and thanks for looking!
