Buttercup would be a great horse for a loving family and/or companion horse. She is respectful during leading, but she sometimes needs a reminder about boundaries from time to time. She free-lunges and lunges on a lunge line at all 3 gaits and will walk through all kinds of obstacles and has had a lot of exposure taking her to different places and going inside of senior care residences and schools. She prefers being touched by one person at a time and really appreciates when the people around her are tuned into her body language. She has worked with children for years. She willingly loads into our van with a ramp but also will load easily in a regular horse trailer. She could use practice with standing patiently in the trailer before it starts moving. She's a fun, affectionate, spunky little girl who would make a great horse for someone! She will leave her herd to walk up and say hello when you enter the turnout area. She lives with our entire herd of 9 during the day, ranging from a Clydesdale to a cow to a mini mule and everything in-between. She gets along with everyone. At night she shares a stall with a miniature mule. We are sadly rehoming her because she isn't a huge fan of going into senior care facilities, which is the job that we need her for specifically in our equine therapy program. She does have Cushing's and the only sign is her thicker/longer coat. However, she hasn't shown any signs of insulin resistance or metabolic disease. She has never foundered. She doesn't tolerate Prascend well. She manages well without Prascend with careful diet monitoring, grazing muzzle in the summer for short turnout time on grass, and we have her on a metabolic supplement called Harmony. We also suspect by how she moves that she has a bit of arthritis in her hocks but have never had imaging done. We do put Voltaren on her hocks regularly. Otherwise, she gets a few flakes of local grass hay a day and half a pound of alfalfa pellets in the morning with her supplements. She has a daily mineral/vitamin supplement as well.
