Meet Honey! 12/13 years old QH, 14.2hh, approx. 980-1000lbs, dark Palomino mare. Located in Oregon City, Oregon. Honey has been with us for the last 8 months, but I can trace back her history for a few years. We have made the difficult decision to see if there is a better home out there for her. My husband and I are novice recreational trail riders, and Honey could benefit from a home with more experience and consistency. Her Pros: She is broke, well trained and knows her stuff. Previous owners used her for barrel racing and gaming. She is smart and catches on quickly. She rides western with a side-pull bridle. She does trails, the beach and arena. She is sound although front shoes or trail boots are recommended. She had a soundness/lameness exam in April and the vet saw no reason for xrays. She is small but easily carries my husband at 6'2" and 200+lbs. She loads and trailers wonderfully. Stands still for baths. Great camping partner as well. Her teeth were floated Feb 2024, vaccines were done Apr 2024. Currently on senior Equilux, Haystack special blend and Horse Guard. She is currently healthy and thriving per vet visit in Apr 2024 Her cons: She is sassy/spicy, stereotypical mare behavior. She is not a beginner’s horse as she needs consistent work and corrections to stay focused. She can be buddy sour and herd bound, but she will leave the group if asked and quickly moves on to the work in front of her. She can be emotional. When she's on, she's great. When she's upset, she shuts down. She gets into her own head sometimes and any progress from that day is usually lost. She wouldn't make the best lessons horse. Her big con: Within the last 3 months, she suddenly had an issue with the farrier. She used to stand with no issues but now she is refusing to cooperate. She had a soundness/lameness exam in April and the vet saw no reason for xrays. She is established at Eagle Fern Equine in Estacada and her visit report is available for review. Perfect home: Ideally, we would love to see her go to an intermediate/experienced rider who can work with her 4+ days a week. A farm or ranch would be perfect. Someone who has patience is a must given her emotional head space. She will be a project at first. She will need someone to continue work with her farrier issues and continue her dietary needs. We are in no rush to sell, and plan to keep her until we find a good match. She has much to offer with the right home. We will only let her go to an approved home. Price and contract are negotiable, but we are firm about knowing how she is doing in her new home. Her happiness and health are our priorities.
