I bought Theo a few weeks ago. We LOVE him but he doesn't want to be a lesson horse. He is much happier hitting the trails. I was told that he is broke to ride and drive. We have not driven him.
He is phenomenal on trails and also rides out solo. He is not a plodder and walks out but will let you rate his speed if he is with someone slower. He's been good with the dogs racing around and the one time we've had him 'spook' he just started in place (the dogs flushed a pheasant about 10 yards from us). He will stand tied all day and also cross ties well. He is easy to groom, tack up and stands nicely for mounting. We started teaching him to pick you up at the mounting block as well. He will ride away from the group without much fuss.
When I bought him he loaded and hauled great. He unloaded like a perfect gentleman. We have only had him in with 2 other horses and while he is higher in the pecking order he hasn't been nasty about it. He stands for baths and stood great for the farrier. He is barefoot. When he came he hadn't had any recent hoof care and had horrible thrush. He wasn't unsound and my farrier got him cleaned up but we are still currently treating. He occasionally takes an off step when on hard ground/rock but working on hardening his soles. We also had to roach his mane as it was 1/2 rubbed off and full of bot eggs.
Theo is more than welcome to stay here. We really enjoy him and he's been easy to have around. However he doesn't seem to love arena lessons and if there is a family out there looking for a nice solid trail gelding I think that is the career he would prefer. Vet did verify age when she was here for another horse. She also mentioned that he looks to have recently had a dental. Feel free to contact me for more info/pictures/videos.
