In the 4 years that we have owned Lady, we have ridden and packed her extensively in the mountains as well as arena work, clinics and trail courses. She is good with other horses, mules and dogs. She crosses water, obstacles and steep terrain confidently. She is easy to keep in the barn, or on the highline or corral in camp. She is easy to trailer, and has a background in the show world before we got her. She has strong hooves that do well without shoes, and is good for the farrier to trim or shoe. She does have a mild case of shivers, but our vet and our farrier seem confident that it is not an issue for her. The vast majority of our experiences with Lady have been positive, but we have had a couple issues with her. We want to be very honest about her issues, and make sure that she ends up with someone who understands mules, and will be successful with her. The two issues we have had with her are that she gets herd bound and doesn't want to ride off alone, and that she doesn't like the smell of blood. We have usually been able to work through these problems. It is not unusual for mules to be herd bound, and I can live with that, but we are hunters, and I need my mules to pack meat. Lady has packed out several elk over the years, and usually gets over her anxiety about it fairly quickly. On one of our hunts this Fall, we had a lot of meat packing to do. Lady did ok at first, but by the end of our hunt, she had gotten more and more anxious about it and was very difficult to deal with. Contact us for more details. We are an open book, and want to see her go to someone she will be successful with.
