Alexis Jo (Lexi) 10 yr. Old Thoroughbred. She was raced three times before being retired due to a slab fracture in her knee. I purchased her at the age of three when she was rehabbing. She has never taken an off step since. She is sound, barefoot (wears scoot boots on hard surfaces), lives in a pasture 24/7, and is UTD on everything (besides yearly teeth float which is coming up). Lexi and I have been to schooling shows, clinics, and even participated in competitive trail once. She is probably the best trail horse I've ever owned. It keeps her mind busy. She'll cross water, bridges, doesn't spook at turkeys flying up etc. She has jumped up to 3 feet with scope for more, and could probably do upper level dressage too. We've done extensive ground work together, liberty, and she's been ridden bareback in a sidepull bridle. HOWEVER, Lexi is a hot and anxious horse. We quit jumping in 2021 because while she was stupid brave, she would often throttle herself over jumps. Conversely, she was so relaxed on the trails that it just seemed right to switch to dressage. However, I am sure with the right person and in consistent work, she could easily go back to jumping. Lexi primarily deals with separation anxiety and while it has improved, there will be days/weeks when it difficult to get her to relax away from her pals. When she's anxious she seems to lose all sense. While she usually has great ground manners, when she's worried she can get pushy because she's not focused or connected with you. She has regular chiropractic and body work, saddle fit, teeth floated, vet checks. She loads, ties, cross ties, bathes, clips, and hauls in a trailer without issue. Like I said, it's not ALL the time, when she struggles, but it's tough when she does. She's not a beginner horse, and she won't go to a beginner. Her last show was in 2022. Unfortunately, we relocated in the summer of 2023 and I was finishing graduate school leaving no time for showing. This year has been more of the same and I've yet to find a lesson barn to get established with. I'm a 34 year old mom of three and a full-time mental health counselor. I'm just contemplating thr fact that maybe I'm ready for a steady Eddie instead of the Ferrari. I have tons more pictures and video available upon request. I have even have some clips of what she is like when she is anxious.
